Fundraising ideas using Half.com

Note: Not all the fundraising ideas will suit every site! So browse all the fund raising ideas, be creative, and choose the fundraiser that will work best for your site.

Half.com is a a company owned by eBay.  It is also an open market but is not an auction.  People can sell books, videos, and music much more easily than it is to sell on eBay.

All you have to do is put in the ISBN # (the bar-code number) and a listing of that item including a picture will be available.  Just add the condition of the item and the asking price and you have a listing.

This is much easier than selling on eBay where you have to figure out a way to take at least one picture (preferably more) and then write a detailed description about the item.

Fundraising ideas:

(This would work best for an organization that has a physical membership like a school or church.  Also, you will need to have a volunteer/secretary to input in the information and fulfill the orders.)

Send out a flyer/email to your members requesting donations for newer books (older books wont work), videos, DVD's, CD's or video games.  List the items on Half.com.  Fulfill the orders as they come in.

I have sold some stuff on Half.com and found it very user friendly.  I recommend to first sell a few items just to get the hang of it.  Profits aren't huge and can range from approximately $2-$15 an item.  This is not a huge money maker.  However, after posting a few items, it becomes very easy to do and if you have an ongoing supply of items the profits can easily add up.  I know some people who buy books at thrift stores and sell at Half.com to supplement their income.

Please don't email me with questions regarding how to register with them.  They have good support, and they would be able to answer your questions better than me.

Extra cash:

Once you have a whole list of items up for sale at Half.com, go to CommissionJunction.com and sign up as a publisher (if you haven't already).  Or you can join Half.com's affiliate program directly here

Commission Junction represents Half.com.  Once you are registered on CJ, sign up to become a Half.com affiliate.  Go and get a Half.com link and put it on your website or email it to your membership.

As of writing this, Half.com offers  $5 off coupons through these links!  Also, they will pay your organization $5 for EVERY new member that buys something who came through your link!

Write an email to all your members with the exciting news about having the list of items up on Half.com and offer them a $5 coupon.  Also explain that your nonprofit will earn $5 for the first purchase of any new member!  So not only will they receive $5 the cause will receive $5 too!

Get them to forward the email to everyone in their address book.
